Chopra - Healers and Practitioners Summit - Cultivating Presence

This past week I took part in Chopra’s Healers and Practitioners Summit. There were so many aha moments for me that I wanted to share with my community. There were five sessions hosted by Chopra leaders across many topics – healing, presence, limiting beliefs, natural rhythms, and dharma.

The Power of Intention and Attention - Cultivating Presence

Hosted by Sarah Finger, Director of Yoga and Roger Gabriel, Chief Meditation Officer at Chopra Global

1.     The first question we need to ask ourselves is - are we aware? The mind is like a herd of sleeping elephants. We tiptoe through it…and we trip over the first trunk. Before we know where we are there is chaos and confusion. That is how our mind is most of the time. The key is to be able to slip by all those distractions that take us out of that present moment. We are actually living in the future or the past most of the time. The key is to “be here in this moment.” That is the great value of meditation. It takes us beyond these distractions and thoughts into the state of awareness. Mediation is moving from activity to silence.

2.     Pauses between your breath and thoughts are the moments of awareness. Everything we desire is in that “no thing” space. That’s where the real “you” is. We are the one who thinks the thoughts, we are not the thoughts. In that “no thing” space we reconnect with our true self, the silence, the infinite possibilities.

3.     Become the witness to your life. Live with awareness and life becomes one deep meditation and a wonderful journey. The common thought of witnessing is that it’s not an action…but it is. Anytime we are aware of our thoughts, desires, or patterns is going to lead to a transformation that we can’t plan…that infinite organizing power.

4.     “The wisdom of uncertainty,” the unknown, is an open book. Everything is already here we just need to call on it.  Re-turning, re-cognizing, re-seeing, re-learning, re-membering. There is an opportunity to peel away all of the layers and achieve liberation or freedom (moksha).

I hope at least one of these concepts resonates with you. Happy meditating!
